So I had this idea. Imagine if the Artist Spotlight and the Playlist Rotation segments we have here on TDT had a baby. The baby would spotlight up-and-coming artists by compiling their music in a playlist every Friday. I thought it sounded like a good idea, so here I present to you the first installment of "The 4th Quarter."
John Wells - The Jumpoff
You gotta have a lot of balls to take Erykah Badu's "Bag Lady" and rap about bricks over it, but that's just what Lor Luck did...and he did it masterfully. This still blows my mind like it did when I heard it three months ago.
Air Jxhnie - Halleluuu
I saw this guy perform live at The Art Show 2 in Baltimore last Saturday and this version doesn't do the live version justice with the energy he brings to the stage. Along with "Magic Johnson" and "Division 1," Air Jxhnie really has some bangers.
36Reezy - Drug Talk
Another artist that was at The Art Show 2 in Baltimore last weekend, 36Reezy released the DJ Nick assisted single "Drug Talk" this week. I ain't saying you should try whatever drugs Reezy is referring too, but I won't judge you either if you do.
00Doma - Deuce
00Doma skated over this track. I've never heard someone rap about scales and work over a beat like this. I don't know, this shit just so smooth to me.
(P.S. - 00Doma, if you're reading this, check your email)
Nysa - What I Need
I know nothing about Nysa, where he's from, any background information, or anything, but this was sent to me and he's just flowing man...really well. I'd love to see what else he puts out.
DAVEYTHEGREAT - 2AM
This song was sent to me as well. "2AM" is quickly picking up steam and it's not difficult to see why.
Tribal Stress - Natural!
I love Tribal Stress's sound. I saw them perform as well at The Art Show 2 in Baltimore and they really stand out from the pack because of their originality.
Jay Verze - Feelin Important
One of the most crucial things for an artist to accomplish is progression, and seeing where Jay Verze was years ago with his "Animate the Lifeless" movement to where he is now has been something to see.
Don Neil - Run Wit It!
This is in my "having a bad day" playlist rotation. Don Neil got some stuff in the vault for this summer too, trust me.
MIKEYTHA$AVAGE - $KRT OFF
Mikey's buzz is really growing by the second these days. You can definitely tell he has a distinctive sound that he's been working on. It'll be interesting to see how the Marino Gang signee progresses through this year under the mentorship of A$AP Ant.
