You ever just walk into your living room then decide to stand on a chair and suddenly you’re on top of the Eiffel Tower over looking Paris while eating a french fry because it’s a French food? No? Me either. As for a child though, that idea would be easy to think of and they’d be in Paris for about an hour or so. They would tell you how they painted with Leonardo Da Vinci or maybe even how they went shopping at some of the best boutiques in town.
Now, as an adult, we’d just go along for the sake of the kid’s feelings. My question is why as adults do our creativity fade away? Some more than others of course, but why does that really have to be when we can all be creative adults instead of some of us just being adults. The definition of creative is “relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work”. Sounds like an easy adjetice to use to describe yourself, right? Well think again.
It is easy to consider yourself as a creative person, but as an adult just how creative can you get and it be acceptable? Why even think about being accepted just for being creative? Society, in my opinion, slowly but surely has somehow diminished our abilities to think as creative as we once did in our youth. There are several ways adults can have the ability to be creative while incorporating the ideas of being an adult also. Now you may see people walking around dressed what you would call, strange but in fact for them, that’s their way of being creative and maybe even still using the idea as a child playing dress up.
As for another example, we’ll use hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar and rapper Lil B. In Kendrick Lamar’s song, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”, written by him, the first two lines in the first verse are “Look inside of my soul and you can find gold and maybe get rich/Look inside of your soul and you can find out it never exist” while in Lil B’s song, Ellen Degeneres, written by him, the first two lines in the first verse are “I feel like Ellen/Right hand Ellen."
Now let me just add that in my opinion I enjoy music with a meaningful message; something I can relate to and truly feel. Comparing the two artists spoken about above, Kendrick Lamar is more lyrically creative than Lil B in my opinion. This example relates back to my question about creativity fading away in adults. Even when we think it’s still there, it’s not really there as much as we may tell ourselves if it’s corny or just not that great.
I feel like with an imagination your mind should run really deep especially because you have developed better intellectual skills throughout the years as an adult. Now, clearly Kendrick Lamar still has a grasp on his creative skills while mixing it with real adult situations. Why is it that some adults tend to give up on things they loved as a child rather than keep that creative mindset and mix it with experiences that occurred and continue to occur throughout their adult years?
I guess what I’ve really been trying to say here is as adults don’t throw away everything from your childhood. Keep your creative ways and mix it with situations to help relieve stress instead of causing more stress than necessary by constantly thinking about the problem. Get creative and figure out a solution. We all have problems as adults but we have to remember to keep the stress levels as low as possible and what better way to do that than to incorporate a little of your childhood ways into something to make it fun.
